This course continues the writing and reading skills developed in English 0861. Students learn proper reading and research techniques. They also learn to analyse, evaluate, summarize, and research material that may include documentary films, literature and non-fiction works. Students write a research report and present the report.

Both ENGL 0861 and ENGL 0871 are required for completion of the ABE Advanced Level English.

Prerequisites

English 0861 or equivalent, or department approval.

  • Reading Skills:
    - Reading about and researching topics or issues
    - Choosing a research topic and finding 3 articles or sources that support the topic
  • Evaluating the validity of research and writing
    - Evaluating sources
    - Summarizing source content
  • Viewing and analyzing documentary films
  • Reading, analyzing, researching and writing about a variety of sources such as literature and/or non-fiction works.
  • Writing a Research Report including APA formatting
  • Presenting a Research Report
  • Grammar
