Not ready to start your program just yet? You may be able to defer your admission to a future term without reapplying.
What it means to defer
You can request to move your program start date to a future intake (within one year).
If approved, you won’t need to reapply or resubmit transcripts.
Note: You may need to update time-sensitive requirements like assessments or certifications.
When you can defer
You may request to defer if:
- You received a letter of acceptance, and
- You’ve paid your commitment fee, and
- You’re applying to defer within one year of your original intake, and
- You’re in a regular program (not Continuing Studies, Apprenticeship, or individual courses), or
- You’re in select health programs with documented medical need (Dental Hygiene, BScN, and BScN Advanced Entry)
Things to keep in mind
- A deferral request does not guarantee a seat in your desired intake
- You may only request to defer one time
- The commitment fee is non‑refundable for any intake
- Your request will be reviewed, and approval is subject to seat availability
Deadlines and instructions
- Defer requests must be submitted at least one month prior to the start of your original intake.
- All requests are subject to review.

Note: Letters of acceptance for future terms may not be released until closer to that intake
