What you will learn

  • Apply trauma informed practice in the addictions counselling context
  • Consider the impacts of historic and systemic oppression on individuals
  • Navigate various models of addiction care to support unique client needs
  • Apply appropriate counselling techniques when working with people with addictions
  • Practice self awareness to support ethical conduct and self-care in the helping relationship

This program is part-time and courses are offered in the evening.  This program can be completed in 4 months. Maximum time for completion is 2 years.

Program-specific

Prior education and/or minimum 1 year work or volunteer experience in the social services field, to be assessed by the department.
