Overview

Get the skills, knowledge, and experience required for entry-level office roles related to accounting and bookkeeping in small, medium, and large businesses. Upon graduation, students will be prepared to perform accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, bookkeeping, basic accounting and office administration-related functions.

What to expect

Instruction involves lectures, guest speaker presentations, discussions, practical examples, and group and individual work. Learning will be enhanced through a variety of interactive classroom and collaborative activities. These activities are designed to give students the opportunity to take an active role and learn by doing.

What you will learn

  • Apply professional standards for efficiency and quality of work in entry level administrative accounting and bookkeeping roles
  • Use accounting software to perform accounting, payroll and tax remittance functions
  • Apply accounting principles, theories, skills and best practices to record financial transactions
  • Apply bookkeeping principles to maintain proper ledgers and balances for private, public or non-profit businesses
  • Use fundamental management accounting and financial management concepts to assist the decision-makers in an organization
  • Perform appropriate office procedures as required by the workplace context
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate respectful and ethical workplace behaviour

Program duration and maximum time for completion

The program can be completed full time in 10-12 weeks or part-time in 24 weeks.  Maximum time for completion is one year.

Admission requirements

Program-specific

Grade 12 graduation or CLB level 8 or equivalent.
