While most programs at VCC accept students on a first-qualified, first-offered basis, some programs may offer conditional admission. Conditional admission decisions are at the discretion of VCC and may vary by country based on different educational systems.
Types of conditions
Common admission conditions include high school or university completion, Food Safe Level 1 certification, and police checks. ILAC or ILSC pathway students may also apply for conditional admission.
Competitive selection programs may not be eligible for conditional admission.
High school or university completion
Conditional admission may be available to Grade 12 students applying to eligible VCC certificate and diploma programs, as well as students in their final university semester applying to VCC Post-Degree Diploma programs.
Please submit your current report card or interim transcript, along with your expected graduation date, for assessment. Admission decisions will be granted based on the evaluation of current report cards and interim transcripts. Admission decisions are not guaranteed.
English 12 from Canada
Students studying in Canada on a study permit who are currently completing English 12 at a Canadian high school may be considered for conditional admission. Admission decisions will be granted based on the evaluation of current report cards and interim transcripts. Admission decisions are not guaranteed.
Food Safe Level 1
A Food Safe Level 1 certificate is a requirement for some VCC programs. Students applying to Baking, Pastry Arts, and Asian Culinary Arts programs may receive conditional admission and must submit proof of a Food Safe Level 1 certificate or equivalent by the deadline stated in their Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLOA). The Food Safe Level 1 certificate processing time is approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the completion of the course. Students should complete the Food Safe Level 1 course well in advance, as VCC requires submission of the official certificate by the specified deadline to satisfy the admission condition.
Police checks
A police check certificate is a requirement for some VCC programs, such as the Health Care Assistant Diploma. Qualified applicants may receive conditional admission and must submit the required police check documentation by the deadline listed in their Conditional Letter of Acceptance.
Meeting conditions
Students who receive conditional admission to VCC must meet all admission conditions by the specified deadlines.
- Students who are unable to meet the conditions of admission by the stated deadlines may request a deferral of admission to the next available term. Deferral requests must be received a minimum of six weeks prior to the start date of your program. If a deferral of admission is not received before the deadline, the application may be withdrawn.
- Students who are unable to meet the conditions of admission by the stated deadline may also submit a request to withdraw their applications. Check the refund policy and withdrawal for details.
ILAC and ILSC university pathway
Students who are not from countries where English is the primary language must also submit proof of English or acceptance letters from VCC’s partner language schools, ILAC or ILSC), when applying for conditional admission. Students enrolled at ILAC or ILSC University Pathway programs may apply for conditional admission in many of VCC’s programs, as long as all other requirements are met. For more information about ILAC or ILSC University Pathway programs, contact ILAC or ILSC directly.
Conditional admission for pathway students
To receive final admission, conditionally admitted students must complete the required University Pathway level and submit either the pathway certificate or an equivalent English language test score by the deadline stated in their Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLOA). Review the ILAC University Pathway and ILSC University Pathway pages for the list of programs that are eligible for conditional admission.
Meeting conditions for pathway students
Conditionally admitted students must submit the certificates of the required University Pathway levels from ILAC or ILSC, or an equivalent language test score, by the deadlines stated in the Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLOA) to receive final admission.
Follow your pathway study plan
Your admission remains conditional until VCC receives the required pathway certificate or an equivalent language test score by the deadline stated in your CLOA. Please consult with your pathway specialists at ILAC or ILSC before making any changes to your pathway study plan.
If you decide to discontinue the University Pathway program at ILAC or ILSC without providing an equivalent language test score, your conditional admission and seat may be cancelled, as you are unable to meet the conditions listed on your Conditional Letter of Acceptance. You must reapply to VCC for the next available intake, and seats are offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
Even if you submit a language test score before completing your pathway program, we encourage you to continue improving your English proficiency to better prepare for your upcoming VCC studies.
Deadlines to meet conditions
If you are unable to meet the conditions by the deadline stated in your Conditional Letter of Acceptance, you have two options:
- Request a deferral of admission by emailing [email protected] with your full name, program, VCC student number, and an updated Letter of Acceptance from your pathway language school.
- Withdraw your application and request a refund. Refer to the refund policy for details about the non-refundable portion of the tuition, the administration fee, and other refund guidelines for international students.
Receive full admission with conditions removed
To receive full admission and have your conditions removed, submit one of the following by the deadline stated in your Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLOA):
- A completion letter and final transcript of the university pathway level as stated in your Conditional Letter of Acceptance
- An equivalent language test
Direct admission for pathway students
Students who have completed ILAC or ILSC university pathway programs may meet VCC’s English requirements and apply for direct admission to the majority of VCC programs. The pathway levels required for direct admission vary by program, and the pathway certificates are valid for 2 years.
Students who apply using a valid pathway certificate may satisfy VCC’s English language requirements and receive a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) without conditions. There will be no Conditional Letter of Acceptance (CLOA) issued with language proficiency as a condition. The official Letter of Acceptance (LOA) will also not state that completion of a prerequisite program or course was required for enrolment at VCC.
